I like your point about the readily available themes not really being there for Drupal. As a UX/UI guy, and a PHP developer, I LOVE Drupal. The other big deal for me was that I could set up a Drupal “Farm” with many domains running off the same drupal core. With WordPress, I had to be on the same domain. So updates to WordPress x 20+ sites….PAINFUL. Both are great platforms, depending on your use.

This video should be taken down… both CMS engines have made leaps and bounds since ’07. I <3 Drupal, but if you have to ask you’re better off with WordPress.

I actually like Textpattern the most for a simple blog website. You need to be a designer to create a website with Textpattern though. I find WordPress very boring.

I use Joomla but if I had to choose between WordPress and Drupal, I would say WordPress because it is user friendly and has tons of support.

    it depends on the
    platform you choose
like WordPress or (Blog) + Marketing or Business Model
I’m in the process of trying out Smorty
    and paypercost Basicly using
    the Consumer Generated Advertising model.

Having used a huge number of varied platforms (RazorCMS?) I can say this:
Speed and efficiency? Drupal and WordPress top the charts.
Ecommerce done right, Drupal or Magento.
Web designer or blogger? Drupal or WordPress.
The way I see it, Drupal can be fitted to any need, but there are other options.
Joomla, is heavy. After a few productions, I had to leave it alone, for Drupal.
Expression Engine, and several other platforms are alright, but don’t have the established community or mod library.

I’m building my blog off wordpress bc I get distracted by tinkering with code when I should be writing. But i find it tragic that a lot of designers take the title of developer because they know a little wordpress.

I think it’s harmful because they end up sacrificing the expertise necessary to provide custom functionality for a real commercial site. Drupal, though it’s a hellish learning curve is 2nd to non in being able to do anything for your clients and the site security is exceptional!
